SeltaSquare has registered a domestic patent for an AI-powered system that streamlines pharmacovigilance (PV) operations, and is preparing to launch a platform based on this technology.
The company announced that it has completed domestic patent registration for a "Method and Apparatus for Providing an Intelligent Pharmacovigilance Platform" — an invention designed to improve the efficiency of pharmacovigilance procedures — and has also filed international patent applications (PCT) in the United States, Europe, China, and other countries.
Today, pharmaceutical companies around the world are required to conduct clinical trials to assess the efficacy and side effects of new drugs during development, manufacturing, and commercialization, and must report the results to relevant government authorities. Even after a drug reaches the market, companies must carry out continuous and complex pharmacovigilance activities to ensure ongoing safety. This work must comply with ICH guidelines across areas such as manufacturing and clinical operations, and the regulatory burden has been growing since pharmacovigilance regulations began tightening in Europe in 2012.
Pharmaceutical companies are required to build their own pharmacovigilance systems, but doing so demands enormous human resources and financial investment due to the complexity involved — including collecting data from diverse sources, interpreting unstructured data, and applying ever-evolving regulations.
SeltaSquare's patented "Method and Apparatus for Providing an Intelligent Pharmacovigilance Platform" addresses these challenges by using AI algorithms to carry out pharmacovigilance procedures. The company plans to develop and release a platform leveraging this technology. Currently, SeltaSquare is developing a PV platform — including a Safety Database — based on its registered AI patent, with a goal of launching a Light version before the end of this year.
CEO Shin Min-kyung stated: "The patent-based pharmacovigilance platform will make it easier to conduct pharmacovigilance in a scientific and systematic manner. We have additionally filed three more technology patents based on artificial intelligence, and we will continue to forge our own unique path, grounded in PV expertise and AI/IT capabilities."
